SUMMARY:The Stunning
DESCRIPTION:.\n\n\n“The Stunning were the biggest band in the country; tracks such as Brewing up a Storm\, Heads are Gonna Roll and Half Past Two are still alternative anthems.” \n— Irish Times \n“The Stunning pretty much did it all first time around\, in this country at least. Paradise In The Picturehouse\, their debut\, was the first Irish debut album to go to number one and stayed there for five weeks.” \n— Hot Press \nThe legendary live performers\, who have had a series of top ten hits and number one albums\, have amassed a cult following nationally and internationally. They provided the soundtrack to a generation of people brought up in Ireland during the late 80’s and 90’s and with another number one Irish album in 2018 and two new singles\, they have attracted a whole new audience with their timeless tunes. \nThe band formed in 1987 in Galway\, Ireland and had their first Top 20 single just a year later followed by two more Top 10 hits before their debut album ‘Paradise in the Picturehouse’ hit the number one spot in 1990 staying there for 5 weeks. Over the next year or so\, there were more hit singles\, followed by another number one album. ‘Once Around the World’. They released a live album ‘Tightrope’ in ’93 before splitting up a year later. \nAfter an absence of almost ten years\, the band reformed in 2003 to find that their audience had in fact grown during the time they spent away. In 2012 around 30\,000 people turned out to see them play a free concert in their old hometown of Galway city. In March 2018 the band released ‘Twice Around the World’\, a re-recorded\, re-vamped version of their second number one album ‘Once Around the World’. It topped the charts once again and was the biggest-selling album in Ireland that week. The band then embarked on a sold-out tour of Ireland and headlined festivals over the summer of 2018. \nIn September 2023 their song ‘Brewing up a Storm’ was licensed to promote the Heineken Rugby World Cup on TV\, radio and online commercials. It is a fitting soundtrack as many international rugby\, gaelic football and soccer teams have walked out onto the pitch to its rousing chorus. \nThe band shot an hour-long film ‘We Come Alive’ during the pandemic\, featuring a host of guest artists including Mundy\, Faye O’Rourke (Soda Blonde)\, Camille O’Sullivan\, button accordion player Máirtín O’Connor and more. It is due to be screened on Ireland’s main national television station later in 2023.

SUMMARY:The Undertones
DESCRIPTION:.\n\n\nAhead of the release of their very first live album\, The Undertones have come roaring back with an extensive UK and European tour\, which includes a show at Cork’s Cyprus Avenue this December. \nThe Undertones emerged from Derry in 1976\, the result of five friends (John O’Neill\, Damian O’Neill\, Feargal Sharkey\, Billy Doherty and Michael Bradley) learning how to play basic rock and roll. Practicing in their bedrooms eventually led to the band recording John O’Neill’s ‘Teenage Kicks’ in 1978 on Terri Hooley’s Good Vibrations label in Belfast. The legendary DJ John Peel received a copy and liked it so much he played it twice in a row on his radio show. \nThe Undertones signed with Sire Records and ‘Teenage Kicks’ was re-released\, resulting in the band’s first appearance on Top Of The Pops. Over the next five years\, John O Neill\, crafted further pop gems such as `Here Comes The Summer`\, ‘Jimmy Jimmy`\, `You’ve Got My Number (Why Don’t You Use It)’ and ‘Wednesday Week’ whilst Damian O’Neill and Michael Bradley contributed ‘My Perfect Cousin. They also recorded four highly acclaimed LPs. Indeed\, they almost enjoyed the life of professional musicians. In 1983 Feargal Sharkey left the band to pursue a solo career and the remaining members decided to call it a day. \nIn 1999 The Undertones reconvened to once again perform their two-minute\, three and a half chord songs to a new generation of fans. Fellow Derryman Paul McLoone replaced Feargal Sharkey and his vocal prowess and electric onstage presence soon convinced any doubters that he was more than capable of doing the job. Over the last 25 years since they reformed\, The Undertones have toured around the world and are playing better than ever. This convinced the band that it’s about time they record and release a first ever live album.

SUMMARY:Frank and Walters **Extra show added due to demand**
DESCRIPTION:.\n\n\nThe Frank and Walters are one of the most recognizable alternative rock bands hailing from Cork\, Ireland in the past 3 decades. The band: Paul Linehan (Lead vocal & bass)\, Ashley Keating (Drums) Rory Murphy (lead Guitar) and Cian Corbett (Keyboards) took the band name in honour of two eccentric Cork characters. Two decades on from the release of their very first record\, and the Franks continue to defy expectations. With Indie hits such as ‘Fashion Crisis Hits New York’ & ‘After All’ (which reached the top twenty in the UK Singles Chart\, where it peaked at 11. \nThe group also appeared on Top of the Pops in support of the single\, it went as high as 5 in the Irish charts). Their music today is as relevant as any of the new pretenders on the block and only a handful of bands anywhere in the world can lay claim to such longevity of popularity. Each year\, the Frank and Walters perform sell out venues across the UK\, Europe\, and the US and their records\, both new and classic\, continue to sell across the world \nThe Frank and Walters frontman\, Paul Linehan\, first spoke on how lockdown affected him as a musician\, stating that “It was obviously difficult…but at the same time\, I could focus on writing and recording my own songs. It was a very inspirational time for me as well because it made you reflect on life a bit more and made you do a lot of soul searching and thinking and that was kind of inspirational. So I think I got a good few songs out of it\, none of them have seen the light of day yet\, but they’re there.” \nThe veteran Cork rocker expressed how excited he was to be back playing live shows again\, as he “missed it enormously”. Although he has loved connecting deeper to writing music\, there is a different energy that comes with performing in front of a crowd. \n“When you write a song you’re expressing yourself at that moment and you’re trying to express new feelings in writing\,” Linehan explained. \n“But when you come up onstage\, you’re going through all of the feelings that you’ve gone through in the last 20 or 30 years\, and for me\, when I do a gig and relive those feelings\, I find it therapeutic. I always feel brilliant after a gig\, kind of exhilarated. It’s like therapy\, and I did miss that.”

SUMMARY:Mick Flannery
DESCRIPTION:Mick Flannery plays a very special end of year show at Cork City Hall on Friday 20th December.\n\n\n“Mick Flannery has a voice for the ages\, a complete Master of his craft” cited by Clash Magazine\, whilst The Sunday Times said he “conjures up exquisite story-telling”. His latest offering ‘Goodtime Charlie’ Flannery’s eighth studio record went straight to No. 1 at home in Ireland on the independent charts\, and No. 2 on the Official Charts\, making it his sixth top 5 record to date\, with 3 Number 1 records already under his belt. ‘Goodtime Charlie’ is also the first international signing for John Prine’s beloved Oh Boy Records. \nMick Flannery’s songs are fluent in expressing layered aspects of the human condition\, its flaws\, triumphs\, and general uncertainty. His live shows are renowned for his self-deprecating humour\, audience engagement and ability to bring people on a journey of both heartbreak and joy\, often in the same instance. \nMick has built up a reputation over the past decade as one of Ireland’s hardest-working musicians\, touring extensively at home and in more recent years abroad as his songs have been reaching folks farther afield. Ireland’s best-kept secret appears to be no more.
